NONNOTTE / Draping High Neck Pullover (Obsidian)

Clear Heavy Broadcloth At the heart of my shirt-making is this heavy broadcloth material, which I continue to use every season. The material uses a thick yarn called 35-count single yarn made from organic extra-long staple cotton. It was developed in collaboration with Kaneta Textiles in Shizuoka Prefecture. This yarn is completely original, with a yarn count design that did not exist in the world before. It took two years to establish the spinning process. From there, it took another two years to weave it at the ideal density. It took a total of four years, a development period that would almost never be possible within a normal exhibition cycle. However, it was made possible thanks to the technology and passion of Kaneta Textiles, and my own determination to make this material the core of the brand. This is not a fabric that was made for this season, but a fabric that I have been working on for "this moment" for the past four years. Kaneta Textiles is a weaving mill that uses ultra-high density looms, which are rare in the world, to weave thick yarns to their limits. For many years I have had complete confidence in their technology and approach to manufacturing. This material was designed to simultaneously achieve two seemingly contradictory elements: the beautiful sheen of a dress shirt and the toughness to withstand everyday wear. The ideal was a shirt that retains a certain dignified elegance even when worn casually without ironing. It's a shirt fabric with substance that looks good without being overly polished. Fine-gauge shirt fabrics made from high-quality raw cotton are undeniably beautiful. However, after just one wear, they wrinkle easily, and the burden of care makes them less and less desirable. I've experienced this many times. On the other hand, simply weaving with thicker threads makes it too casual, losing the formality of a dress shirt.

It was a challenging task, but by facing it head-on, we have created a shirt fabric unlike any other. Since it is 100% cotton, it will naturally wrinkle. However, the uneven wrinkles characteristic of thick yarns that appear in this material are not a flaw, but rather one of its characteristics. It is a rugged yet supple wrinkle that cannot be created with fine yarns. I myself wear it without ironing. I think it is a material that is fine like that. I would be happy if you could naturally feel the strength and sense of security of this fabric by wearing it for a long time. Draping High Neck Pullover What if a knit turtleneck sweater could be expressed in woven fabric with a freer silhouette? This pullover was born from that idea. I like turtlenecks, but I personally had the problem that my neck area tends to get hot when I go indoors. To solve that, we have added a button opening on the side of the neck. When closed, it functions as a high neck, and when opened, it creates the appearance of a collar. It is designed so that the appearance changes depending on how you wear it. The cuffs are not ribbed like knits, but we have deliberately made them into a cuff style that is more like woven fabric. We hope you'll enjoy the shirt-like nuance and allure that emerges when you roll up the sleeves. The most distinctive feature is the bomber sleeve, which is structurally difficult to achieve in knitwear. The three-dimensional sleeve design with a sense of direction creates a volume and movement that seems to hold air. The body is gently tapered to balance the overall look.

This is a design that exists within. The beauty of form is achieved through the three-dimensionality created by the fabric and the negative space. It is also one of the silhouettes I have always sought. This time, it was made with nonnotte's signature material, heavy broadcloth. It is precisely because of its stiffness and density that the drape and three-dimensionality come out clearly, making this form possible. It is a garment that reconstructs the concept of knitwear using woven fabric.
