NONNOTTE / Oversized Shirt (Obsidian)

At the heart of my shirt-making is this heavy broadcloth fabric, which I've consistently used every season.

The fabric uses a thick 35-count single yarn made from organic extra-long staple cotton. It was developed in collaboration with Kaneta Textiles in Shizuoka Prefecture.

This yarn is completely original, a yarn count design that didn't exist anywhere else.

It took two years to establish the spinning process, and another two years to weave it to the ideal density. A total of four years—a development period that would be virtually impossible within a normal exhibition cycle.

However, it was made possible thanks to Kaneta Textiles' skill and passion, and my own determination to make this fabric the core of the brand.

This isn't a fabric I created for this season; it's a fabric I've been working on for four years, specifically for "this moment." Kaneta Textiles is a weaving mill that utilizes ultra-high-density looms, rare in the world, to weave thick yarns to their limits.

For many years, I've had complete confidence in their technology and approach to craftsmanship. This material was designed to simultaneously achieve two seemingly contradictory elements: the beautiful sheen of a dress shirt and the toughness to withstand everyday wear.

Our ideal was a shirt that retains a certain dignified elegance even when worn casually without ironing. A shirt fabric with substance that looks good without excessive fussing.

Fine-gauge shirt fabrics made from high-quality raw cotton are undeniably beautiful. However, after one wear, they develop strong wrinkles, and the burden of care makes them less likely to be worn.

We've experienced this many times. On the other hand, simply weaving with a thicker gauge would lean towards casualness, losing the formality of a dress shirt.

That's why it was necessary to weave a thick gauge fabric with a density comparable to a dress shirt.

It was a difficult challenge, but by facing it head-on, we've created a shirt fabric unlike any other.

Since it's 100% cotton, wrinkles will naturally occur. However, the uneven wrinkles characteristic of thicker gauge fabrics are not a flaw, but rather a part of its character.

A rugged yet supple wrinkle that cannot be achieved with finer yarns. I myself wear it without ironing.

I believe it's a great material. I hope that by wearing it for a long time, you will naturally come to appreciate the strength and reliability of this fabric.

・Oversized Shirt

We are once again updating our oversized shirt, a staple of nonnotte, by reviewing the details.

While maintaining the flowing lines from the shoulders to the sleeves and the generous volume of the body, we have re-adjusted the overall balance.

The design allows the fabric to move away from the body, trapping air and beautifully revealing the texture and drape of the material. This time, we have adopted an open collar design.

While creating a relaxed impression with a sense of openness around the neck, the collar design ensures a balanced look that doesn't appear sloppy.

The design ensures that the form remains intact whether worn open or closed. The hemline has been changed to a gentler round than before.

This cut allows for more movement than a straight cut, creating a natural flow when walking or when the wind blows. The shape also adds depth to the hemline when layered.

While oversized, it's not simply large; the pattern is designed to create a three-dimensional fit. It doesn't spread out horizontally, but rather drapes and settles into a neat silhouette.

While a staple, the design and details are subtly revised each season to approach the ideal form. This is an ongoing update of the shirts that nonnotte strives for.

It's a piece you can reach for repeatedly in your daily life. And yet, it looks beautiful and polished when worn. This is a piece that aims to achieve both. We hope you'll add it to your wardrobe and feel its evolution as you wear it.
